Eyes Lifted in Hope of Mercy

¹A song of degrees. I lift vp mine eyes to thee, that dwellest in the heauens.

²Behold, as the eyes of seruants looke vnto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a mayden vnto the hand of her mistres: so our eyes waite vpon the Lord our God vntil he haue mercie vpon vs.

³Haue mercie vpon vs, O Lord, haue mercie vpon vs: for we haue suffered too much contempt.

⁴Our soule is filled too full of ye mocking of the wealthy, and of the despitefulnes of the proude.

Salvation like a Bird Escaped from the Snare

¹A song of degrees, or Psalme of David. If the Lord had not bene on our side, (may Israel now say)

²If the Lord had not bene on our side, when men rose vp against vs,

³They had then swallowed vs vp quicke, when their wrath was kindled against vs.

⁴Then the waters had drowned vs, and the streame had gone ouer our soule:

⁵Then had the swelling waters gone ouer our soule.

⁶Praysed be the Lord, which hath not giuen vs as a praye vnto their teeth.

⁷Our soule is escaped, euen as a bird out of the snare of the foulers: the snare is broken, and we are deliuered.

⁸Our helpe is in the Name of the Lord, which hath made heauen and earth.

The Lord Who Surrounds and Keeps like the Mountains

¹A song of degrees. They that trust in the Lord, shalbe as mount Zion, which can not be remooued, but remaineth for euer.

²As the mountaines are about Ierusalem: so is the Lord about his people from henceforth and for euer.

³For the rod of the wicked shall not rest on the lot of the righteous, least the righteous put forth their hand vnto wickednes.

⁴Doe well, O Lord, vnto those that be good and true in their hearts.

⁵But these that turne aside by their crooked wayes, them shall the Lord leade with the workers of iniquitie: but peace shalbe vpon Israel.

Zion's New Name and the Unceasing Watchmen

¹For Zions sake I will not holde my tongue, and for Ierusalems sake I wil not rest, vntil the righteousnes thereof breake foorth as the light, and saluation thereof as a burning lampe.

²And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousnesse, and all Kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.

³Thou shalt also be a crowne of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royall diademe in the hand of thy God.

⁴It shall no more be sayd vnto thee, Forsaken, neither shall it be said any more to thy land, Desolate, but thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah, and thy land Beulah: for the Lord deliteth in thee, and thy land shall haue an husband.

⁵For as a yong man marieth a virgine, so shall thy sonnes marry thee: and as a bridegrome is glad of the bride, so shall thy God reioyce ouer thee.

⁶I haue set watchmen vpon thy walles, O Ierusalem, which all the day and all the night continually shall not cease: ye that are mindfull of the Lord, keepe not silence,

⁷And giue him no rest, till hee repaire and vntill hee set vp Ierusalem the prayse of the worlde.

⁸The Lord hath sworne by his right hand and by his strong arme, Surely I wil no more giue thy corne to be meate for thine enemies, and surely the sonnes of the strangers shall not drinke thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured.

⁹But they that haue gathered it, shall eate it, and prayse the Lord, and the gatherers thereof shall drinke it in the courtes of my Sanctuarie.

¹⁰Go through, go through the gates: prepare you the way for the people: cast vp, cast vp the way, and gather out the stones and set vp a standart for the people.

¹¹Beholde, the Lord hath proclaimed vnto the endes of the world: tell the daughter Zion, Beholde, thy Sauiour commeth: beholde, his wages is with him, and his worke is before him.

¹²And they shall call them, The holy people, the redeemed of the Lord, and thou shalt be named, A citie sought out and not forsaken.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

¹And hee called his twelue disciples vnto him, and gaue them power against vncleane spirits, to cast them out, and to heale euery sickenesse, and euery disease.

²Nowe the names of the twelue Apostles are these. The first is Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother: Iames the sonne of Zebedeus, and Iohn his brother.

³Philippe and Bartlemewe: Thomas, and Matthewe that Publicane: Iames the sonne of Alpheus, and Lebbeus whose surname was Thaddeus:

⁴Simon the Cananite, and Iudas Iscariot, who also betraied him.

⁵These twelue did Iesus send forth, and commanded them, saying, Goe not into the way of of the Gentiles, and into the cities of the Samaritans enter yee not:

⁶But goe rather to the lost sheepe of the house of Israel.

⁷And as ye goe, preach, saying, The kingdome of heauen is at hand.

⁸Heale the sicke: cleanse the lepers: raise vp the dead: cast out the deuils. Freely ye haue receiued, freely giue.

⁹Possesse not golde, nor siluer, nor money in your girdels,

¹⁰Nor a scrippe for the iourney, neither two coates, neither shoes, nor a staffe: for the workeman is worthie of his meate.

¹¹And into whatsoeuer citie or towne ye shall come, enquire who is worthy in it, and there abide till yee goe thence.

¹²And when yee come into an house, salute the same.

¹³And if the house be worthy, let your peace come vpon it: but if it be not worthie, let your peace returne to you.

¹⁴And whosoeuer shall not receiue you, nor heare your woordes, when yee depart out of that house, or that citie, shake off the dust of your feete.

¹⁵Truely I say vnto you, it shall be easier for them of the lande of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of iudgement, then for that citie.

Coming Persecutions Foretold

¹⁶Behold, I send you as sheepe in the middes of the wolues: be yee therefore wise as serpents, and innocent as doues.

¹⁷But beware of men, for they will deliuer you vp to the Councils, and will scourge you in their Synagogues.

¹⁸And ye shall be brought to the gouernours and Kings for my sake, in witnes to them, and to the Gentiles.

¹⁹But when they deliuer you vp, take no thought howe or what ye shall speake: for it shall be giuen you in that houre, what ye shall say.

²⁰For it is not yee that speake, but the spirite of your father which speaketh in you.

²¹And the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the sonne, and the children shall rise against their parents, and shall cause them to die.

²²And yee shall be hated of all men for my Name: but he that endureth to the end, he shall be saued.

²³And when they persecute you in this citie, flee into another: for verely I say vnto you, yee shall not goe ouer all the cities of Israel, till the Sonne of man be come.

²⁴The disciple is not aboue his master, nor the seruant aboue his Lord.

²⁵It is ynough for the disciple to bee as his master is, and the seruaunt as his Lord. If they haue called the master of the house Beel-zebub, howe much more them of his housholde?

Fear Him Who Is to Be Feared

²⁶Feare them not therefore: for there is nothing couered, that shall not be disclosed, nor hid, that shall not be knowen.

²⁷What I tell you in darkenesse, that speake yee in light: and what yee heare in the eare, that preach yee on the houses.

²⁸And feare yee not them which kill the bodie, but are nor able to kill the soule: but rather feare him, which is able to destroy both soule and bodie in hell.

²⁹Are not two sparrowes sold for a farthing, and one of them shall not fal on the ground without your Father?

³⁰Yea, and all the heares of your head are nombred.

³¹Feare ye not therefore, yee are of more value then many sparowes.

³²Whosoeuer therefore shall confesse me before men, him will I confesse also before my Father which is in heauen.

³³But whosoeuer shall denie me before me, him will I also denie before my Father which is in heauen.

Not Peace, but a Sword

³⁴Thinke not that I am come to sende peace into the earth: I came not to send peace, but the sworde.

³⁵For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in lawe.

³⁶And a mans enemies shall be they of his owne housholde.

³⁷He that loueth father or mother more then me, is not worthie of me. And he that loueth sonne, or daughter more then mee, is not worthie of me.

³⁸And hee that taketh not his crosse, and followeth after me, is not worthie of me.

³⁹He that will finde his life, shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall finde it.

Rewards for Receiving a Disciple

⁴⁰He that receiueth you, receiueth me: and hee that receiueth mee, receiueth him that hath sent me.

⁴¹Hee that receiueth a Prophet in the name of a Prophet, shall receiue a Prophetes rewarde: and hee that receiueth a righteous man, in the name of a righteous man, shall receiue the rewarde of a righteous man.

⁴²And whosoeuer shall giue vnto one of these litle ones to drinke a cuppe of colde water onely, in the name of a disciple, verely I say vnto you, he shall not lose his rewarde.
