David in His Old Age and Abishag the Shunammite
1Now when King Dauid was olde, and striken in yeeres, they couered him with clothes, but no heate came vnto him.
2Wherefore his seruants saide vnto him, Let there be sought for my lord ye King a yong virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him: and let her lie in thy bosome, that my lord the King may get heate.
3So they sought for a faire young maide thoroughout all the coastes of Israel, and founde one Abishag a Shunamite, and brought her to the king.
4And the maid was exceeding faire, and cherished the king, and ministred to him, but the King knew her not.
Adonijah Sets Himself Up as King
5Then Adoniiah the sonne of Haggith exalted himselfe, saying, I will be king. And he gate him charets and horsemen, and fiftie men to run before him.
6And his father would not displease him from his childehood, to say, Why hast thou done so? And hee was a very goodly man, and his mother bare him next after Absalom.
7And he tooke counsel of Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and of Abiathar the Priest: and they helped forward Adoniiah.
8But Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and Nathan the Prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the men of might, which were with Dauid, were not with Adoniiah.
9Then Adoniiah sacrificed sheepe and oxen, and fat cattel by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the kings sonnes, and al the men of Iudah ye Kings seruants,
10But Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah, and the mightie men, and Salomon his brother hee called not.
The Counsel of Nathan and Bathsheba
11Wherefore Nathan spake vnto Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon, saying, Hast thou not heard, that Adoniiah ye sonne of Haggith doeth reigne, and Dauid our lord knoweth it not?
12Now therefore come, and I will now giue thee counsell, howe to saue thine owne life, and the life of thy sonne Salomon.
13Go, and get thee in vnto King Dauid, and say vnto him, Didest not thou, my lorde, O King, sweare vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne? why is then Adoniiah King?
14Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the King, I also will come in after thee, and confirme thy wordes.
15So Bath-sheba went in vnto the King into the chamber, and the King was verie olde, and Abishag the Shunammite ministred vnto ye King.
16And Bath-sheba bowed and made obeisance vnto the King. And the King saide, What is thy matter?
17And shee answered him, My lorde, thou swarest by the Lord thy God vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne.
18And beholde, nowe is Adoniiah king, and now, my lord, O King, thou knowest it not.
19And he hath offred many oxen, and fatte cattel, and sheepe, and hath called all the sonnes of the King, and Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the captaine of the hoste: but Salomon thy seruant hath he not bidden.
20And thou, my lorde, O King, knowest that the eyes of all Israel are on thee, that thou shouldest tell them, who shoulde sit on the throne of my lord the King after him.
21For els when my lord the King shall sleepe with his fathers, I and my sonne Salomon shalbe reputed vile.
22And lo, while she yet talked with the King, Nathan also the Prophet came in.
23And they tolde the King, saying, Beholde, Nathan the Prophet. And when he was come in to the King, hee made obeisance before the King vpon his face to the ground.
24And Nathan saide, My lorde, O King, hast thou said, Adoniiah shall reigne after mee, and he shall sit vpon my throne?
25For hee is gone downe this day, and hath slaine many oxen, and fat cattel, and sheepe, and hath called al the Kings sonnes, and the captaines of the hoste, and Abiathar the Priest: and behold, they eate and drinke before him, and say, God saue King Adoniiah.
26But me thy seruant, and Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and thy seruant Salomon hath he not called.
27Is this thing done by my lord the King, and thou hast not shewed it vnto thy seruant, who should sitte on the throne of my lorde the King after him?
David Commands That Solomon Be Made King
28Then King Dauid answered, and saide, Call me Bath-sheba. And shee came into ye Kings presence, and stoode before the King.
29And the King sware, saying, As the Lord liueth, who hath redeemed my soule out of all aduersitie,
30That as I sware vnto thee by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and hee shall sit vpon my throne in my place, so will I certainely doe this day.
31Then Bath-sheba bowed her face to the earth, and did reuerence vnto the King, and said, God saue my lord King Dauid for euer.
32And King Dauid saide, Call mee Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada. And they came before the King.
33Then the King said vnto them, Take with you the seruants of your lorde, and cause Salomon my sonne to ride vpon mine owne mule, and carie him downe to Gihon.
34And let Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet anoint him there King ouer Israel, and blowe ye the trumpet, and say, God saue king Salomon.
35Then come vp after him, that hee may come and sit vpon my throne: and hee shall bee King in my steade: for I haue appointed him to be prince ouer Israel and ouer Iudah.
36Then Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada answered the King, and said, So be it, and the Lord God of my lord the King ratifie it.
37As the Lord hath bene with my lorde the King, so be he with Salomon, and exalt his throne aboue the throne of my lorde king Dauid.
38So Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went downe and caused Salomon to ride vpon king Dauids mule, and brought him to Gihon.
39And Zadok the Priest tooke an horne of oyle out of the Tabernacle, and anointed Salomon: and they blewe the trumpet, and all the people said, God saue king Salomon.
40And all the people came vp after him, and the people piped with pipes, and reioyced with great ioye, so that the earth rang with the sound of them.
Adonijah Flees in Fear and Grasps the Horns of the Altar
41And Adoniiah and all the ghestes that were with him, heard it: (and they had made an ende of eating) and when Ioab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, What meaneth this noise and vprore in the citie?
42And as he yet spake, beholde, Ionathan the sonne of Abiathar the Priest came: and Adoniiah said, Come in: for thou art a worthie man, and bringest good tidings.
43And Ionathan answered, and said to Adoniiah, Verely our lord King Dauid hath made Salomon King.
44And the King hath sent with him Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they haue caused him to ride vpon the Kings mule.
45And Zadok the Priest, and Nathan ye Prophet haue anointed him King in Gihon: and they are gone vp from thence with ioy, and the citie is moued: this is the noise that ye haue heard.
46And Salomon also sitteth on the throne of the kingdome.
47And moreouer the Kings seruantes came to blesse our lord King Dauid, saying, God make the name of Salomon more famous then thy name, and exalt his throne aboue thy throne: therefore the King worshipped vpon the bed.
48And thus sayd the King also, Blessed bee the Lord God of Israel, who hath made one to sit on my throne this day, euen in my sight.
49Then all the ghestes that were with Adonijah, were afraide, and rose vp, and went euery man his way.
50And Adonijah fearing the presence of Salomon, arose and went, and tooke holde on the hornes of the altar.
51And one tolde Salomon, saying, Beholde, Adonijah doeth feare King Salomon: for lo, he hath caught holde on the hornes of the altar, saying, Let King Salomon sweare vnto me this day, that he will not slay his seruant with the sword.
52Then Salomon sayd, If he will shewe him selfe a worthy man, there shall not an heare of him fall to the earth, but if wickednes be found in him, he shall dye.
53Then King Salomon sent, and they brought him from the altar, and he came and did obeisance vnto King Salomon. And Salomon sayde vnto him, Go to thine house.
갈라디아서 5
Keep the Freedom Christ Has Given
1Stand fast therefore in the libertie wherewith Christ hath made vs free, and be not intangled againe with the yoke of bondage.
2Beholde, I Paul say vnto you, that if yee be circumcised, Christ shall profite you nothing.
3For I testifie againe to euery man, which is circumcised, that he is bound to keepe the whole Lawe.
4Ye are abolished from Christ: whosoeuer are iustified by the Law, ye are fallen from grace.
5For we through the Spirit waite for the hope of righteousnes through faith.
6For in Iesus Christ neither circumcision auaileth any thing, neither vncircumcision, but faith which worketh by loue.
7Ye did runne well: who did let you, that ye did not obey the trueth?
8It is not the perswasion of him that calleth you.
9A litle leauen doeth leauen the whole lumpe.
10I haue trust in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but hee that troubleth you, shall beare his condemnation, whosoeuer he be.
11And brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why doe I yet suffer persecution? Then is the slaunder of the crosse abolished.
12Would to God they were euen cut off, which doe disquiet you.
Serve One Another in Love
13For brethren, ye haue bene called vnto libertie: onely vse not your libertie as an occasion vnto the flesh, but by loue serue one another.
14For all the Lawe is fulfilled in one worde, which is this, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe.
15If ye bite and deuoure one another, take heede least ye be consumed one of another.
The Works of the Flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit
16Then I say, Walke in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lustes of the flesh.
17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary one to another, so that ye can not doe the same things that ye would.
18And if ye be led by the Spirit, ye are not vnder the Lawe.
19Moreouer the workes of the flesh are manifest, which are adulterie, fornication, vncleannes, wantonnes,
20Idolatrie, witchcraft, hatred, debate, emulations, wrath, contentions, seditions, heresies,
21Enuie, murthers, drunkennesse, gluttonie, and such like, whereof I tell you before, as I also haue tolde you before, that they which doe such things, shall not inherite the kingdome of God.
22But the fruite of the Spirit is loue, ioye, peace, long suffering, gentlenes, goodnes, fayth,
23Meekenesse, temperancie: against such there is no lawe.
24For they that are Christes, haue crucified the flesh with the affections and the lustes.
25If we liue in the Spirit, let vs also walke in the Spirit.
26Let vs not be desirous of vaine glorie, prouoking one another, enuying one another.

A Lament for Egypt, the Sea Monster Caught in the Net
1And in the twelfth yeere in the twelfth moneth, and in the first day of the moneth, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
2Sonne of man, take vp a lamentation for Pharaoh King of Egypt, and say vnto him, Thou art like a lyon of the nations and art as a dragon in the sea: thou castedst out thy riuers and troubledst the waters with thy feete, and stampedst in their riuers.
3Thus sayth the Lord God, I will therefore spread my net ouer thee with a great multitude of people, and they shall make thee come vp into my net.
4Then will I leaue thee vpon the land, and I will cast thee vpon the open field, and I wil cause all the foules of the heauen to remaine vpon thee, and I will fill all the beastes of the field with thee.
5And I will lay thy flesh vpon the mountaines, and fill the valleys with thine height.
6I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, euen to ye mountaines, and the riuers shall be full of thee.
7And when I shall put thee out, I will couer the heauen, and make the starres thereof darke: I will couer the sunne with a cloude, and the moone shall not giue her light.
8All the lightes of heauen will I make darke for thee, and bring darkenesse vpon thy lande, sayeth the Lord God.
9I will also trouble the heartes of many people, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations and vpon the countries which thou hast not knowen.
10Yea, I will make many people amased at thee, and their Kings shalbe astonished with feare for thee, when I shall make my sworde to glitter against their faces, and they shall be afraide at euery moment: euery man for his owne life in the day of thy fall.
11For thus sayth the Lord God, The sworde of the King of Babel shall come vpon thee.
12By the swordes of the mightie will I cause thy multitude to fall: they all shall be terrible nations, and they shall destroy the pompe of Egypt, and all the multitude thereof shalbe consumed.
13I will destroy also all the beastes thereof from the great watersides, neither shall the foote of man trouble them any more, nor the hooues of beast trouble them.
14Then will I make their waters deepe, and cause their riuers to runne like oyle, sayeth the Lord God.
15When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the countrey with all that is therein, shall be laid waste: when I shall smite all them which dwell therein, then shall they know that I am ye Lord.
16This is the mourning wherewith they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for Egypt, and for all her multitude, sayeth the Lord God.
Egypt and the Hordes of Nations Gone Down to the Pit
17In the twelfth yeere also in the fifteenth day of the moneth, came the worde of the Lord vnto me, saying,
18Sonne of man, lament for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them downe, euen them and the daughters of the mighty nations vnto the nether partes of the earth, with them that goe downe into the pit.
19Whome doest thou passe in beautie? goe downe and sleepe with the vncircumcised.
20They shall fall in the middes of them that are slaine by the sword: shee is deliuered to the sword: draw her downe, and all her multitude.
21The most mighty and strong shall speake to him out of the mids of hell with them that helpe her: they are gone downe and sleepe with the vncircumcised that be slaine by the sworde.
22Asshur is there and all his companie: their graues are about him: all they are slaine and fallen by the sworde.
23Whose graues are made in the side of the pit, and his multitude are rounde about his graue: all they are slaine and fallen by the sworde, which caused feare to be in the land of the liuing.
24There is Elam and all his multitude round about his graue: al they are slaine and fallen by the sword which are gone downe with the vncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, which caused themselues to be feared in the land of the liuing, yet haue they borne their shame with them that are gone downe to the pit.
25They haue made his bed in the mids of the slaine with al his multitude: their graues are round about him: all these vncircucised are slaine by the sworde: though they haue caused their feare in the land of ye liuing, yet haue they borne their shame with them that goe downe to the pitte: they are laide in the middes of them, that be slaine.
26There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitude, their graues are round about them: al these vncircumcised were slaine by the sworde, though they caused their feare to be in ye land of the liuing.
27And they shall not lie with the valiant of the vncircumcised, that are fallen, which are gone down to the graue, with their weapons of warre, and haue laied their swords vnder their heads, but their iniquitie shalbe vpon their bones: because they were the feare of the mighty in the lande of the liuing.
28Yea, thou shalt be broken in the middes of the vncircumcised, and lie with them that are slaine by the sworde.
29There is Edom, his Kings, and all his princes, which with their strength are laied by them that were slaine by the sworde: they shall sleepe with the vncircumcised, and with them that goe downe to the pit.
30There be al the princes of the North, with al the Zidonians, which are gone downe with the slaine, with their feare: they are ashamed of their strength, and the vncircumcised sleepe with them that be slaine by the sword, and beare their shame with them that goe downe to the pit.
31Pharaoh shall see them, and hee shall be comforted ouer all his multitude: Pharaoh, and all his armie shall be slaine by the sword, saieth the Lord God.
32For I haue caused my feare to be in the lande of the liuing: and he shall be laid in the mids of the vncircumcised with them, that are slaine by the sword, euen Pharaoh and all his multitude, sayeth the Lord God.

Restore Us and Bring Us Back
1To him that excelleth on Shoshannim Eduth. A Psalme committed to Asaph. Heare, O thou Shepheard of Israel, thou that leadest Ioseph like sheepe: shewe thy brightnes, thou that sittest betweene the Cherubims.
2Before Ephraim and Beniamin and Manasseh stirre vp thy strength, and come to helpe vs.
3Turne vs againe, O God, and cause thy face to shine that we may be saued.
4O Lord God of hostes, how long wilt thou be angrie against the prayer of thy people?
5Thou hast fedde them with the bread of teares, and giuen them teares to drinke with great measure.
6Thou hast made vs a strife vnto our neighbours, and our enemies laugh at vs among themselues.
7Turne vs againe, O God of hostes: cause thy face to shine, and we shalbe saued.
8Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
9Thou madest roume for it, and didest cause it to take roote, and it filled the land.
10The mountaines were couered with the shadowe of it, and the boughes thereof were like the goodly cedars.
11Shee stretched out her branches vnto the Sea, and her boughes vnto the Riuer.
12Why hast thou then broken downe her hedges, so that all they, which passe by the way, haue plucked her?
13The wilde bore out of the wood hath destroyed it, and the wilde beastes of the fielde haue eaten it vp.
14Returne we beseech thee, O God of hostes: looke downe from heauen and beholde and visite this vine,
15And the vineyard, that thy right hand hath planted, and the young vine, which thou madest strong for thy selfe.
16It is burnt with fire and cut downe: and they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
17Let thine hande be vpon the man of thy right hande, and vpon the sonne of man, whome thou madest strong for thine owne selfe.
18So will not we goe backe from thee: reuiue thou vs, and we shall call vpon thy Name.
19Turne vs againe, O Lord God of hostes: cause thy face to shine and we shalbe saued.
