Jesus Appears at the Sea of Tiberias

¹After these things Iesus shewed himselfe againe to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias, and on this wise shewed he himselfe.

²There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathaneel of Cana in Galilee, and the sonnes of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

³Simon Peter saith vnto them, I goe a fishing. They say vnto him, Wee also goe with thee. They went foorth and entred into a ship immediatly, and that night they caught nothing.

⁴But when the morning was now come, Iesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knewe not that it was Iesus.

⁵Then Iesus saith vnto them, Children, haue ye any meat? They answered him, No.

⁶And he said vnto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and yee shall finde. They cast therfore, and now they were not able to draw it, for the multitude of fishes.

⁷Therefore that Disciple whome Iesus loued, saith vnto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fishers coate vnto him, (for hee was naked) & did cast himselfe into the sea.

⁸And the other disciples came in a litle ship (for they were not farre from land, but as it were two hundred cubites) dragging the net with fishes.

⁹Assoone then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coales there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

¹⁰Iesus saith vnto them, Bring of the fish, which ye haue now caught.

¹¹Simon Peter went vp, & drewe the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fiftie and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

¹²Iesus saith vnto them, Come, and dine. And none of the disciples durst aske him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

¹³Iesus then commeth, and taketh bread, and giueth them, and fish likewise.

¹⁴This is nowe the third time that Iesus shewed himselfe to his disciples, after that hee was risen from the dead.

Jesus Restores Peter

¹⁵So when they had dined, Iesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, sonne of Ionas, louest thou mee more then these? He saith vnto him, Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I loue thee. He saith vnto him, Feed my lambes.

¹⁶He saith to him againe the second time, Simon sonne of Ionas, louest thou me? He saith vnto him, Yea Lord, thou knowest that I loue thee. He saith vnto him, Feed my sheepe.

¹⁷He said vnto him the third time, Simon sonne of Ionas, louest thou mee? Peter was grieued, because hee saide vnto him the third time, Louest thou me? And he said vnto him, Lord, thou knowest all things, thou knowest that I loue thee. Iesus sayth vnto him, Feed my sheepe.

¹⁸Uerily, verily I say vnto thee, whe thou wast yong, thou girdedst thy selfe, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carie thee whither thou wouldest not.

¹⁹This spake hee, signifying by what death he should glorifie God. And when he had spoken this, he sayth vnto him, Follow me.

²⁰Then Peter turning about, seeth the Disciple whom Iesus loued, following, which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is hee that betraieth thee?

²¹Peter seeing him, saith to Iesus, Lord, and what shall this man doe?

²²Iesus saith vnto him, If I will that he tary till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.

²³Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that Disciple should not die: yet Iesus sayd not vnto him, He shall not die: but, If I will that he tary till I come, what is that to thee?

²⁴This is the Disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things, and we know that his testimonie is true.

²⁵And there are also many other things which Iesus did, the which if they should be written euery one, I suppose that euen the world it selfe could not conteine the bookes that should be written, Amen.

The Power of Words and the Wisdom of Friendship

¹Through desire a man hauing separated himselfe, seeketh and intermedleth with all wisedome.

²A foole hath no delight in vnderstanding, but that his heart may discouer it selfe.

³When the wicked commeth, then commeth also contempt, and with ignominie, reproch.

⁴The words of a mans mouth, are as deepe waters, and the well-spring of wisedome as a flowing brooke.

⁵It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to ouerthrowe the righteous in iudgement.

⁶A fooles lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

⁷A fooles mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soule.

⁸The words of a tale bearer are as wounds, and they goe downe into the innermost parts of the belly.

⁹Hee also that is slouthful in his worke, is brother to him that is a great waster.

¹⁰The name of the Lord is a a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

¹¹The rich mans wealth is his strong citie: and as an high wall in his owne conceit.

¹²Before destruction the heart of man is haughtie, and before honour is humilitie.

¹³He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame vnto him.

¹⁴The spirit of a man will sustaine his infirmitie: but a wounded spirit who can beare?

¹⁵The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the eare of the wise seeketh knowledge.

¹⁶A mans gift maketh roome for him, & bringeth him before great men.

¹⁷He that is first in his owne cause, seemeth iust; but his neighbour commeth and searcheth him.

¹⁸The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth betweene the mighty.

¹⁹A brother offended is harder to be wonne then a strong citie: and their contentions are like the barres of a castle.

²⁰A mans belly shall be satisfied with the fruite of his mouth; and with the increase of his lippes shall he be filled.

²¹Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that loue it shall eate the fruite thereof.

²²Who so findeth a wife, findeth a good thing, and obtaineth fauour of the Lord.

²³The poore vseth intreaties, but the rich answereth roughly.

²⁴A man that hath friends must shewe himselfe friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer then a brother.

¹Paul an Apostle of Iesus Christ, by ye will of God, and Timotheus our brother,

²To the saints and faithfull brethren in Christ, which are at Colosse, grace be vnto you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Iesus Christ.

Thanksgiving and Prayer for the Colossians

³We giue thanks to God, and the Father of our Lord Iesus Christ, praying alwayes for you,

⁴Since we heard of your faith in Christ Iesus, and of the loue which yee haue to all the Saints,

⁵For the hope which is layd vp for you in heauen, whereof ye heard before in the word of the trueth of the Gospel,

⁶Which is come vnto you as it is in all the world, and bringeth foorth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day yee heard of it, and knew the grace of God in trueth,

⁷As yee also learned of Epaphras our deare felow seruant, who is for you a faithfull Minister of Christ:

⁸Who also declared vnto vs your loue in the spirit.

Prayer for Wisdom to Walk Worthily

⁹For this cause wee also, since the day we heard it, doe not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisedome and spirituall vnderstanding:

¹⁰That ye might walke worthy of the Lord vnto all pleasing, being fruitfull in euery good worke, & increasing in the knowledge of God:

¹¹Strengthened with all might according to his glorious power, vnto all patience and long suffering with ioyfulnesse:

¹²Giuing thanks vnto the Father, which hath made vs meete to be partakers of the inheritance of the Saints in light:

¹³Who hath deliuered vs from the power of darkenesse, and hath translated vs into the kingdome of his deare Sonne,

¹⁴In whom we haue redemption through his blood, euen the forgiuenesse of sinnes:

The Supremacy of Christ

¹⁵Who is the image of the inuisible God, the first borne of euery creature.

¹⁶For by him were all things created that are in heauen, and that are in earth, visible and inuisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.

¹⁷And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

¹⁸And hee is the head of the body, the Church: who is the beginning, the first borne from the dead, that in all things he might haue the preeminence:

¹⁹For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulnesse dwell,

²⁰And (hauing made peace through the blood of his crosse) by him to reconcile all things vnto himself, by him, I say, whether they bee things in earth, or things in heauen.

Reconciled Through the Cross

²¹And you that were sometimes alienated, and enemies in your minde by wicked workes, yet now hath hee reconciled,

²²In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy & vnblameable, and vnreprooueable in his sight,

²³If ye continue in the faith grounded and setled, and be not moued away from the hope of the Gospel, which yee haue heard, and which was preached to euery creature which is vnder heauen, whereof I Paul am made a Minister.

Paul's Labor and Ministry for the Church

²⁴Who now reioyce in my sufferings for you, and fill vp that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for his bodies sake, which is the Church,

²⁵Whereof I am made a Minister, according to the dispensation of God, which is giuen to mee for you, to fulfill the word of God:

²⁶Euen the mystery which hath been hid from ages, and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints,

²⁷To whom God would make knowen what is the riches of the glory of this mysterie among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

²⁸Whom we preach, warning euery man, and teaching euery man in all wisedome, that we may present euery man perfect in Christ Iesus.

²⁹Whereunto I also labour, striuing according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
