INTRODUCTION TO Leviticus 15
This chapter treats of uncleanness by issues in men and women; in men, a running issue, Leviticus 15:1, which defiles him, and everything he touches, or that touches him or them, Leviticus 15:4; the cleansing from which is directed to, Leviticus 15:13; and seed flowing from him, Leviticus 15:16; in women, their ordinary courses, Leviticus 15:19; or extraordinary ones, Leviticus 15:25; and the law for the cleansing of them, Leviticus 15:28; and a recapitulation of the whole, Leviticus 15:32.

UNCLEANNESS OF MEN.
This chapter would seem to take its place more naturally before Leviticus 12:1-8, with the subject of which it is inmediately connected. Compare especially Leviticus 12:2 with Leviticus 15:19. It stands here between two chapters, with neither of which has it any close connection.
And the Lord spake unto Moses, and unto Aaron,.... Aaron is spoken to as well Moses, because some of these purifications, after mentioned, depended on the priest, as the affair of profluvious men and women, as Gersom observes:
saying;
as follows.
Uncleanness by issues, and their putrefaction and expiation, Leviticus 15:1-15. Of flowing seed, its uncleanness, Leviticus 15:16-18. Of women: their courses ordinarily, Leviticus 15:19-24; extraordinary, Leviticus 15:25-28. Their expiation, Leviticus 15:29,30. An exhortation to cleanness, lest they die, and that they pollute not the tabernacle, Leviticus 15:31. A repetition of the whole, Leviticus 15:32,33.

RUNNING ISSUES FROM THE HUMAN BODY. These are the fourth cause of ceremonial uncleanness. We are not to look for a moral basis for the regulation on account of any vicious habit connected with such issues. They are foul and repulsive, and simply for that reason they are causes of ceremonial uncleanness to those who suffer from them, and to those who crone in contact with persons suffering from them.
In this chapter we have laws concerning other ceremonial uncleannesses contracted either by bodily disease like that of the leper, or some natural incidents, and this either, I. In men, Le 15:1-18. Or, II. In women, Le 15:19-33. We need not be at all curious in explaining these antiquated laws, it is enough if we observe the general intention; but we have need to be very cautious lest sin take occasion by the commandment to become more exceedingly sinful; and exceedingly sinful it is when lust is kindled by sparks of fire from God's altar. The case is bad with the soul when it is putrefied by that which should purify it.
