TEN CURTAINS
1. cunning work--that is, of elegant texture, richly embroidered. The word "cunning," in old English, is synonymous with "skilful."

15-30. 너는 널판들을 만들고 . . . 네게 보인 양식대로 성막을 세우라--성막은 그 이름으로 보나 전체적인 외관과 배치로 보나 장막이었다. 그러나 이 구절들에 주어진 묘사, 곧 그 벽을 이루는 널판들과 그것들을 튼튼하게 하는 다섯 개의 가로지르는 띠, 그리고 "이 끝에서 저 끝까지" 이르러 견고함과 조밀함을 더해 주는 가운데 띠를 보면, 그것은 가볍고 부서지기 쉬운 천막보다 훨씬 더 실질적인 구조물이었음이 분명하다. 아마도 여러 덮개의 무게 때문이기도 하고, 귀중한 기구들을 보호하기 위해서였을 것이다.

15-30. thou shalt make boards . . . rear up the tabernacle according to the fashion . . . which was showed thee--The tabernacle, from its name as well as from its general appearance and arrangements, was a tent; but from the description given in these verses, the boards that formed its walls, the five (cross) bars that strengthened them, and the middle bar that "reached from end to end," and gave it solidity and compactness, it was evidently a more substantial fabric than a light and fragile tent, probably on account of the weight of its various coverings as well as for the protection of its precious furniture.

36. 장막 문을 위한 휘장--동방의 족장들과 귀인들이 거하는 장막의 문이나 입구에는 여인들이 만든 풍성하고 정교한 수놓은 휘장들이 걸린다. 이스라엘의 하나님이시며 왕이신 분의 택하신 거처인 이 성막의 문을 덮을 휘장도 이와 비슷한 우아한 양식으로 완성되었다. 출 26:12, 22, 23을 보면 궤와 속죄소가 성막의 서쪽 끝에 놓였고, 따라서 문 또는 입구는 동쪽을 향했다. 그러므로 이스라엘 사람들은 여호와께 예배할 때 얼굴을 서쪽으로 돌렸다. 이는 그들이 민족들의 큰 우상이었던 그 빛나는 천체에 대한 숭배에서 돌이켜, 그것과 그들을 지으신 하나님을 경배하도록 비유적으로 가르치기 위함이었다[휴렛].

36. an hanging for the door of the tent--Curtains of rich and elaborate embroidery, made by the women, are suspended over the doors or entrances of the tents occupied by Eastern chiefs and princes. In a similar style of elegance was the hanging finished which was to cover the door of this tabernacle--the chosen habitation of the God and King of Israel. It appears from
Ex 26:12, 22, 23,
that the ark and mercy seat were placed in the west end of the tabernacle, and consequently the door or entrance fronted the east, so that the Israelites in worshipping Jehovah, turned their faces towards the west; that they might be thus figuratively taught to turn from the worship of that luminary which was the great idol of the nations, and to adore the God who made it and them [HEWLETT].
