The Spirit Received Not by the Law

¹O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that you should not obey the trueth, before whose eyes Iesus Christ hath been euidently set forth, crucified among you?

²This onely would I learne of you, receiued ye the spirit, by the works of the Law, or by the hearing of faith?

³Are ye so foolish? Hauing begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

⁴Haue ye suffered so many things in vaine? If it be yet in vaine.

⁵He therfore that ministreth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the workes of the Law, or by the hearing of faith?

Abraham's Faith and the Curse of the Law

⁶Euen as Abraham beleeued God, and it was accounted to him for righteousnesse.

⁷Knowe yee therefore, that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

⁸And the Scripture foreseeing that God would iustifie the heathen through faith, preached before the Gospel vnto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

⁹So then, they which bee of faith, are blessed with faithfull Abraham.

¹⁰For as many as are of the works of the lawe, are vnder the curse: for it is written, Cursed is euery one that continueth not in all things which are written in the booke of the Law to doe them.

¹¹But that no man is iustified by the Lawe in the sight of God, it is euident: for, The iust shall liue by faith.

¹²And the Law is not of faith: but the man that doeth them, shall liue in them.

¹³Christ hath redeemed vs from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for vs: for it is written, Cursed is euery one that hangeth on tree:

¹⁴That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles, through Iesus Christ: that wee might receiue the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The Promise Precedes the Law

¹⁵Brethren, I speake after the maner of men: though it be but a mans couenant, yet if it bee confirmed, no man disanulleth, or addeth thereto.

¹⁶Now to Abraham and his seede were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

¹⁷And this I say, that the Couenant that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the Lawe which was foure hundred and thirtie yeres after, cannot disanul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

¹⁸For if the inheritance bee of the Law, it is no more of promise: but God gaue it to Abraham by promise.

¹⁹Wherefore then serueth the Law? it was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come, to whome the promise was made, and it was ordeyned by Angels in the hand of a Mediatour.

²⁰Now a mediatour is not a Mediatour of one, but God is one.

²¹Is the Lawe then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had beene a Lawe giuen which could haue giuen life, verily righteousnesse should haue bene by the Law.

²²But the Scripture hath concluded all vnder sinne, that the promise by faith of Iesus Christ might be giuen to them that beleeue.

Children of God Through Faith

²³But before faith came, wee were kept vnder the Law, shut vp vnto the faith, which should afterwards bee reuealed.

²⁴Wherefore the Law was our Schoolemaster to bring vs vnto Christ, that we might be iustified by Faith.

²⁵But after that Faith is come, we are no longer vnder a Schoolemaster.

²⁶For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Iesus.

²⁷For as many of you as haue bene baptized into Christ, haue put on Christ.

²⁸There is neither Iewe, nor Greeke, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Iesus.

²⁹And if yee be Christs, then are ye Abrahams seed, and heires according to the promise.

The Day of the Lord Coming Upon Egypt

¹The word of the Lord came againe vnto me, saying,

²Sonne of man, prophecie and say, Thus saith the Lord God, Howle ye, woe worth the day.

³For the day is neere, euen the day of the Lord is neere, a cloudie day; it shalbe the time of the heathen.

⁴And the sword shall come vpon Egypt, and great paine shalbe in Ethiopia, when the slaine shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shalbe broken downe.

⁵Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land that is in league, shal fal with them by the sword.

⁶Thus saith the Lord, They also that vphold Egypt shall fall, and the pride of her power shall come downe: from the towre of Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord God.

⁷And they shall bee desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shalbe in the midst of the cities that are wasted.

⁸And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I haue set a fire in Egypt, and when all her helpers shall be destroied.

⁹In that day shall messengers goe foorth from me in shippes, to make the carelesse Ethiopians afraid, and great paine shall come vpon them, as in the day of Egypt: for loe, it commeth.

¹⁰Thus saith the Lord God, I will also make the multitude of Egypt to cease by the hand of Nebuchad-rezzar, king of Babylon.

¹¹He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations shall be brought to destroy the land: and they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slaine.

¹²And I will make the riuers drie, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked, and I wil make the land wast, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I the Lord haue spoken it.

¹³Thus saith the Lord God, I will also destroy the idoles, and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph: and there shalbe no more a Prince of the land of Egypt, and I will put a feare in the land of Egypt.

¹⁴And I wil make Pathros desolate, and wil set fire in Zoan, and will execute iudgements in No.

¹⁵And I wil powre my furie vpon Sin, the strength of Egypt, and I wil cut off the multitude of No.

¹⁶And I will set fire in Egypt, Sin shall haue great paine, and No shall be rent asunder, and Noph shall haue distresses daily.

¹⁷The yong men of Auen and of Phibeseth, shall fall by the sword: and these cities shall goe into captiuitie.

¹⁸At Tehaphnehes also the day shalbe darkened when I shall breake there the yokes of Egypt: & the pompe of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall couer her, and her daughters shall goe into captiuitie.

¹⁹Thus will I execute iudgements in Egypt, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

The Prophecy of Pharaoh's Broken Arm

²⁰And it came to passe in the eleuenth yeere, in the first moneth, in the seuenth day of the moneth, that the word of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

²¹Sonne of man, I haue broken the arme of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and loe, it shall not be bound vp to be healed, to put a rouler to binde it, to make it strong to hold the sword.

²²Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will breake his armes, the strong, and that which was broken; and I wil cause the sword to fall out of his hand.

²³And I wil scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and wil disperse them through the countries.

²⁴And I wil strengthen the armes of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will breake Pharaohs armes, and he shall grone before him, with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.

²⁵But I wil strengthen the armes of the king of Babylon, and the armes of Pharaoh shall fall downe, and they shall knowe that I am the Lord, when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, & he shall stretch it out vpon the land of Egypt.

²⁶And I wil scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them among the countreys, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

³⁸But hee being full of compassion, forgaue their iniquity, and destroyed them not; yea many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stirre vp all his wrath.

³⁹For he remembred that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and commeth not againe.

⁴⁰How oft did they prouoke him in the wildernesse: and grieue him in the desert?

⁴¹Yea they turned backe and tempted God: and limited the holy one of Israel.

⁴²They remembred not his hand: nor the day when hee deliuered them from the enemie:

⁴³How he had wrought his signes in Egypt: and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

⁴⁴And had turned their riuers into blood: and their flouds, that they could not drinke.

⁴⁵Hee sent diuers sorts of flies among them, which deuoured them: and frogges which destroyed them.

⁴⁶He gaue also their increase vnto the caterpiller: and their labour vnto the locust.

⁴⁷He destroyed their vines with haile: and their Sycomore trees with frost.

⁴⁸He gaue vp their cattel also to the haile: and their flockes to hot thunder-bolts.

⁴⁹He cast vpon them the fiercenesse of his anger, wrath and indignation, and trouble: by sending euill angels among them.

⁵⁰He made a way to his anger, hee spared not their soule from death: but gaue their life ouer to the pestilence.

⁵¹And smote all the first borne in Egypt: the chiefe of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

⁵²But made his owne people to goe forth like sheepe: and guided them in the wildernesse like a flocke.

⁵³And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea ouerwhelmed their enemies.

⁵⁴And he brought them to the border of his sanctuarie: euen to this mountaine which his right hand had purchased.

⁵⁵He cast out the heathen also before them, and diuided them an inheritance by line: and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

⁵⁶Yet they tempted and prouoked the most high God: and kept not his testimonies:

⁵⁷But turned backe, and dealt vnfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitfull bowe.

⁵⁸For they prouoked him to anger with their high places: and moued him to ielousie with their grauen images.

⁵⁹When God heard this, hee was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

⁶⁰So that he forsooke the tabernacle of Shiloh: the tent which he placed among men,

⁶¹And deliuered his strength into captiuitie: and his glory into the enemies hand.

⁶²He gaue his people ouer also vnto the sword: and was wroth with his inheritance.

⁶³The fire consumed their young men: and their maidens were not giuen to mariage.

⁶⁴Their priests fell by the sword: and their widowes made no lamentation.

⁶⁵Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleepe: and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

⁶⁶And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetuall reproch.

⁶⁷Moreouer he refused the tabernacle of Ioseph: and chose not the tribe of Ephraim.

⁶⁸But chose the tribe of Iudah: the mount Sion which he loued.

⁶⁹And he built his sanctuarie like high palaces: like the earth which he hath established for euer.

⁷⁰He chose Dauid also his seruant, and tooke him from the sheepe-folds:

⁷¹From following the ewes great with young, hee brought him to feed Iacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

⁷²So he fed them according to the integritie of his heart: and guided them by the skilfulnesse of his hands.
