2. 깨끗하다--또는 "흠이 없다"는 뜻이다.
달아 보신다--또는 "시험하신다," "판단하신다"는 뜻으로, 그것들이 결함 있음을 함축한다(잠언 21:2; 24:12).

3. (난외주 비교). 합법적인 목적의 성공을 위해 하나님을 의지하라.

4. 자기 자신을 위하여--"그 응답" 또는 "목적"을 위하여, 곧 하나님의 계획에 따라라는 뜻이다. 악인은 재앙의 날을 위하여 있다(시편 49:5; 예레미야 17:18). 죄짓는 것과 고난 받는 것은 서로 대응하며, 끊을 수 없이 결합되어 있다.

6. 인자와 진리로--곧 하나님의 인자와 진리로이다(시편 85:10).
그분은 속죄, 곧 죄의 덮음을 이루신다. 또한 참된 경건의 원리는 사람들로 하여금 악에서 떠나게 한다. 또는 "인자"와 "진리"는 사람의 것일 수도 있으며, 용서를 얻는 데 도구적으로 작용하는 은혜로운 성향들을 가리킨다.
깨끗하게 된다--속죄된다는 뜻이다(레위기 16:33; 이사야 27:9, 히브리어에서처럼).
