4, 5절. “준비하다” 등은 문자적으로 “전열을 갖추듯 스스로를 세운다”는 뜻이다. “깨소서”는 시편 3:7; 7:6과 비교하라. 이는 자기 백성과 언약 관계에 계신 하나님께 호소하는 말이다(시편 9:18).

6, 7절. 그들은 먹이를 찾는 굶주린 개들과 같고, 그런 자들답게 “쏟아낸다.” 곧 그들의 뻔뻔한 짖음인 비방을 쏟아낸다는 뜻이다.

9절. 분별 있는 해석자들은 충분한 근거로 이 구절을 “오 나의 힘이시여, 내가 주를 바라리이다”로 번역하는 것이 더 낫다고 본다(시편 59:17). “산성”은 시편 18:3과 비교하라.

10절. “나를 영접하시리니”는 시편 21:3과 비교하라. “내 소원을 보게 하시리이다”는 그들의 패망을 본다는 뜻이다(시편 54:7). “원수들”은 시편 5:8에서처럼 쓰였다.
시편 59:1-17. 표제에 대해서는 시편 57:1 주석을 보고, 역사에 대해서는 사무엘상 19:11 이하를 보라. 범위는 시편 57편과 매우 비슷하다. 악의적이고 폭력적인 원수들을 바라보며 기도하고, 구원을 바라보며 기뻐한다. 1절. “나를 건지소서”는 난외주와 비교하라. “나를 치러 일어나는 자들”은 시편 17:7과 비교하라.
