The New Heaven, the New Earth, and the New Jerusalem

¹And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away; and there was no more sea.

²And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

³And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God.

⁴And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.

⁵And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said to me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

⁶And he said to me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to him that is thirsty of the fountain of the water of life freely.

⁷He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

⁸But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and lewd men, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The Glory of the Holy City and Its Design

⁹And there came to me one of the seven angels, who had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

¹⁰And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

¹¹Having the glory of God: and her light was like to a stone most precious, even like a jasper-stone, clear as crystal;

¹²And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.

¹³On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.

¹⁴And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

¹⁵And he that talked with me, had a golden reed to measure the city, and its gates, and its wall.

¹⁶And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the hight of it are equal.

¹⁷And he measured the wall of it a hundred and forty four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

¹⁸And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.

¹⁹And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;

²⁰The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprase; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

²¹And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl; and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

The City with No Temple, Filled with Light

²²And I saw no temple in it: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

²³And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God enlightened it, and the Lamb is the light of it.

²⁴And the nations of them who are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it.

²⁵And the gates of it shall not be shut by day: for there shall be no night there.

²⁶And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.

²⁷And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie; but they who are written in the Lamb's book of life.

The Messenger of the Covenant Is Coming

¹Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he will come, saith the LORD of hosts.

²But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap.

³And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness.

⁴Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant to the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

⁵And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right , and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁶For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Return with Full Tithes

⁷Even from the days of your fathers ye have gone away from my ordinances, and have not kept them . Return to me, and I will return to you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, In what shall we return?

⁸Will a man rob God? yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, In what have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

⁹Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

¹⁰Bring ye all the tithes into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now with this, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it .

¹¹And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

¹²And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

The Book of Remembrance for Those Who Fear the Lord

¹³Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?

¹⁴Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

¹⁵And now we call the proud happy; yes, they that work wickedness are set up; even they that tempt God are delivered.

¹⁶Then they that feared the LORD spoke often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it , and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

¹⁷And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

¹⁸Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

The Empty Tomb

¹The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, to the sepulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher.

²Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him.

³Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulcher.

⁴So they ran both together: and the other disciple outran Peter, and came first to the sepulcher.

⁵And he stooping down, saw the linen cloths lying; yet he went not in.

⁶Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and seeth the linen cloths lying;

⁷And the napkin that was about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

⁸Then went in also that other disciple who came first to the sepulcher, and he saw, and believed.

⁹For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

¹⁰Then the disciples went away again to their own home.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

¹¹But Mary stood without at the sepulcher weeping: and as she wept she stooped down to look into the sepulcher,

¹²And seeth two angels in white, sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

¹³And they say to her, Woman, why weepest thou? she saith to them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

¹⁴And when she had thus said, she turned herself about, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

¹⁵Jesus saith to her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith to him, Sir, if thou hast borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

¹⁶Jesus saith to her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith to him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.

¹⁷Jesus saith to her, Touch me not: for I have not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say to them, I ascend to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.

¹⁸Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things to her.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

¹⁹Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, Peace be to you.

²⁰And when he had so said, he showed to them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord.

²¹Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be to you: as my Father hath sent me, even so I send you.

²²And when he had said this, he breathed on them , and saith to them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit.

²³Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted to them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

The Doubt and Faith of Thomas

²⁴But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

²⁵The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

²⁶And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be to you.

²⁷Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.

²⁸And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God.

²⁹Jesus saith to him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

³⁰And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.

³¹But these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye may have life through his name.
