Leviticus 4 Introduction
The law concerning the sin-offering for transgressions committed through ignorance, Leviticus 4:1, Leviticus 4:2. For the priest thus sinning, Leviticus 4:3-12. For the sins of ignorance of the whole congregation, Leviticus 4:13-21. For the sins of ignorance of a ruler, Leviticus 4:22-26. For the sins of ignorance of any of the common people, Leviticus 4:27-35.

This chapter contains the law of the sin offering, which was offered for sins committed through ignorance, error, and mistake, Leviticus 4:1 and gives an account of the matter of them, and the rites belonging thereunto, which were different according to the persons for whom it was made, as for the anointed priest, Leviticus 4:3 for the whole congregation, Leviticus 4:13 and for the ruler, Leviticus 4:22 and for any of the common people, Leviticus 4:27.

SIN OFFERING OF IGNORANCE.
And the Lord spake ... Israel - This formula is the commencement of a distinct section of the Law.
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying. Continued to speak to him, or, after some pause made, proceeded to speak to him, and give things in commandment concerning the sin offering, what it should be, and for whom, as follows.
Of sins of ignorance, and their sacrifice, Leviticus 4:1,2: committed by the priest according to the guilt of the people; he must offer a perfect young bullock, and sprinkle the blood seven times before the veil of the holy place, and upon the horns of the incense altar, Leviticus 4:3-12. Or by the whole congregation, when their sin is known, the elders of the congregation to lay their hands on the head of the offering, to be offered in the same manner with that of the priest, Leviticus 4:13-21. Or by a ruler, he, when his sin is made known to him, must offer a he-goat, Leviticus 4:22-26. Or by a private person, must offer a female goat, Leviticus 4:27-35: the sin is forgiven him.
