David prepares to bring home the ark, and musters the Levites, 1 Chronicles 15:1-11. They sanctify themselves, and bear the ark upon their shoulders, 1 Chronicles 15:12-15. The solemnities observed on the occasion, 1 Chronicles 15:16-26. David dances before the ark, and is despised by his wife Michal, 1 Chronicles 15:27-29.
INTRODUCTION TO 1 Chronicles 15
David, having prepared a place for the ark of God, gathered the Israelites, Levites, and priests, to assist in the bringing of it up thereunto, 1 Chronicles 15:1 and which was done in a very honourable and joyful manner, 1 Chronicles 15:24, though David, for his behaviour, was despised by Michal his wife in her heart, 1 Chronicles 15:29.

The thread of the narrative dropped at 1Chronicles 13:14 is now resumed, and the subject of this and the following chapter is the solemn transfer of the Ark from the house of Obed-edom by the lawful ministry of priests and Levites. The elaborate account here presented corresponds to a brief section of eight verses in Samuel (2Samuel 6:12-20 a), which it incorporates, subject to certain variations, noticed in their place (1Chronicles 15:25 to 1Chronicles 16:3, and 1Chronicles 16:43).
1 Chronicles 15 relates—I. David’s preparations for the ceremony of the transfer: (1) by erection of a tent for the Ark (1Chronicles 15:1); (2) by assembling representatives of all Israel, and especially the priests and Levites, and consulting with the latter (1Chronicles 15:2-16); (3) by choice of individuals to conduct the proceedings (1Chronicles 15:17-24). II. The incidents of the procession (1Chronicles 15:25-29).
Ch. 1 Chronicles 15:1-24. David’s Preparations for Bringing Home the Ark
There is no parallel in Samuel to this section; on the other hand Chronicles omits the reason given in 2 Samuel 6:12 for the renewal of David’s attempt to bring home the ark, viz., that David heard of the blessing which had befallen Obed-edom, in whose house the ark had been left.

为神的约柜预备地方,支搭帐幕——即按先前那座的样式,搭了一座全新的。摩西在旷野所造、迄今一直用作神圣遮盖的旧会幕,则留在基遍;或因当地居民不愿割舍如此珍贵的圣物,或因耶路撒冷既已计划建造更为坚固华美的殿宇,它已无用武之地。倘若大卫「为自己建造宫殿」竟先于他预备这座新会幕,似令人惊奇,但应记得他并未就这一工程领受任何神的指示。
为它支搭帐幕——旧「帐幕」即「会幕」当时仍存于基遍 1 Chronicles 16:39; 2 Chronicles 1:3；但约柜早已与之分离，大卫可能认为有必要有更新、更宏伟的帐幕。因此他让先前的会幕留在原处，另行制造一座帐幕将它支搭起来。
