The Gospel to the Gentiles Affirmed by the Apostles

¹Then fourteene yeeres after, I went vp againe to Hierusalem with Barnabas, and tooke with me Titus also.

²And I went vp by reuelation, and declared vnto them that Gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but particularly to them that were the chiefe, least by any meanes I should runne, or had runne in vaine:

³But neither yet Titus which was with me, though he were a Grecian, was compelled to be circumcised,

⁴To wit, for the false brethren which were craftily sent in, and crept in priuily to spie out our libertie, which we haue in Christ Iesus, that they might bring vs into bondage.

⁵To whom we gaue not place by subiection for an houre, that the trueth of the Gospel might continue with you.

⁶But by them which seemed to be great, I was not taught (whatsoeuer they were in time passed, I am nothing the better: God accepteth no mans person) for they that are the chiefe, did adde nothing to me aboue that I had.

⁷But contrariwise, when they saw that ye Gospel ouer ye vncircumcision was comitted vnto me, as the Gospel ouer ye circumcision was vnto Peter:

⁸(For he that was mightie by Peter in the Apostleship ouer the circumcision, was also mightie by me toward the Gentiles)

⁹And when Iames, and Cephas, and Iohn, knew of the grace that was giuen vnto me, which are counted to be pillars, they gaue to me and to Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should preach vnto the Gentiles, and they vnto the Circumcision,

¹⁰Warning onely that we should remember the poore: which thing also I was diligent to doe.

Paul Rebukes Peter at Antioch

¹¹And when Peter was come to Antiochia, I withstood him to his face: for he was to be condemned.

¹²For before that certaine came from Iames, he ate with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himselfe, fearing them which were of the Circumcision.

¹³And the other Iewes played the hypocrites likewise with him, in so much that Barnabas was led away with them by that their hypocrisie.

¹⁴But when I saw, that they went not ye right way to the trueth of ye Gospel, I sayd vnto Peter before all men, If thou being a Iewe, liuest as the Gentiles, and not like the Iewes, why constrainest thou the Gentiles to doe like the Iewes?

Justified by Faith

¹⁵We which are Iewes by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

¹⁶Knowe that a man is not iustified by the works of the Law, but by ye faith of Iesus Christ, euen we, I say, haue beleeued in Iesus Christ, that we might be iustified by the faith of Christ, and not by the workes of the Lawe, because that by the workes of the Lawe, no flesh shalbe iustified.

¹⁷If then while we seeke to be made righteous by Christ, we our selues are found sinners, is Christ therefore the minister of sinne? God forbid.

¹⁸For if I build againe the things that I haue destroyed, I make my selfe a trespasser.

¹⁹For I through the Lawe am dead to the Lawe, that I might liue vnto God.

²⁰I am crucified with Christ, but I liue, yet not I any more, but Christ liueth in me: and in that that I now liue in the flesh, I liue by the faith in the Sonne of God, who hath loued me, and giuen him selfe for me.

²¹I doe not abrogate the grace of God: for if righteousnes be by the Lawe, then Christ dyed without a cause.

Judgment on Pharaoh of Egypt Like a Great Monster

¹In the tenth yeere, and in the tenth moneth in the twelfth day of the moneth, the word of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

²Sonne of man, set thy face against Pharaoh the King of Egypt, and prophecie against him, and against all Egypt.

³Speake, and say, Thus sayth the Lord God, Beholde, I come against thee, Pharaoh King of Egypt, the great dragon, that lieth in the middes of his riuers, which hath saide, The riuer is mine, and I haue made it for my selfe.

⁴But I will put hookes in thy chawes, and I will cause the fish of thy riuers to sticke vnto thy scales, and I will drawe thee out of the middes of thy riuers, and all the fishe of thy riuers shall sticke vnto thy scales.

⁵And I will leaue thee in the wildernes, both thee and al the fish of thy riuers: thou shalt fal vpon ye open field: thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: for I haue giue thee for meat to the beasts of the field, and to the foules of heauen.

⁶And al the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord, because they haue ben a staffe of reede to the house of Israel.

⁷When they tooke holde of thee with their hand, thou diddest breake, and rent all their shoulder: and when they leaned vpon thee, thou brakest and madest all their loynes to stand vpright.

⁸Therefore thus sayeth the Lord God, Beholde, I will bring a sworde vpon thee, and destroy man and beast out of thee,

⁹And the land of Egypt shalbe desolate, and waste, and they shall know that I am ye Lord: because he hath said, The riuer is mine, and I haue made it,

¹⁰Behold, therefore I come vpon thee, and vpon thy riuers, and I will make the land of Egypt vtterly waste and desolate from the towre of Seueneh, euen vnto the borders of the blacke Mores.

¹¹No foote of man shall passe by it, nor foote of beast shall passe by it, neither shall it be inhabited fourtie yeeres.

¹²And I wil make the land of Egypt desolate in the middes of the countries, that are desolate, and her cities shall be desolate among the cities that are desolate, for fourtie yeeres: and I wil scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and wil disperse them through the countreis.

¹³Yet thus saieth the Lord God, At the end of fourtie yeeres will I gather the Egyptians from the people, where they were scattered,

¹⁴And I wil bring againe the captiuitie of Egypt, and will cause them to returne into the land of Pathros, into the lande of their habitation, and they shalbe there a small kingdome.

¹⁵It shall be the smallest of the kingdomes, neither shall it exalt it selfe any more aboue the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule the nations.

¹⁶And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, to bring their iniquitie to remembrance by looking after them, so shall they knowe, that I am the Lord God.

The Land of Egypt Given to Nebuchadnezzar

¹⁷In the seuen and twentieth yeere also in the first moneth, and in the first day of the moneth, came the word of the Lord vnto me, saying,

¹⁸Sonne of man, Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel caused his armie to serue a great seruice against Tyrus: euery head was made balde, and euery shoulder was made bare: yet had he no wages, nor his armie for Tyrus, for the seruice that he serued against it.

¹⁹Therefore thus sayth the Lord God, Beholde, I will giue the land of Egypt vnto Nebuchad-nezzar the King of Babel, and he shall take her multitude, and spoyle her spoyle, and take her pray, and it shall be the wages for his armie.

²⁰I haue giuen him the land of Egypt for his labour, that he serued against it, because they wrought for me, sayth the Lord God.

²¹In that day will I cause the horne of the house of Israel to growe, and I will giue thee an open mouth in the middes of them, and they shall knowe that I am the Lord.

God's Deeds Handed Down to the Generations

¹A Psalme to give instruction committed to Asaph. Heare my doctrine, O my people: incline your eares vnto the wordes of my mouth.

²I will open my mouth in a parable: I will declare high sentences of olde.

³Which we haue heard and knowen, and our fathers haue tolde vs.

⁴Wee will not hide them from their children but to the generation to come we wil shewe the praises of the Lord his power also, and his wonderful woorkes that he hath done:

⁵How he established a testimonie in Iaakob, and ordeined a Law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they shoulde teache their children:

⁶That the posteritie might knowe it, and the children, which should be borne, should stand vp, and declare it to their children:

⁷That they might set their hope on God, and not forget the workes of God but keepe his commandements:

⁸And not to bee as their fathers, a disobedient and rebellious generation: a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirite was not faithfull vnto God.

⁹The children of Ephraim being armed and shooting with the bowe, turned backe in the day of battell.

¹⁰They kept not the couenant of God, but refused to walke in his Lawe,

¹¹And forgate his Actes, and his wonderfull woorkes that he had shewed them.

¹²Hee did marueilous thinges in the sight of their fathers in the lande of Egypt: euen in the fielde of Zoan.

¹³He deuided the Sea, and led them through: he made also the waters to stand as an heape.

¹⁴In the day time also hee led them with a cloude, and all the night with a light of fire.

¹⁵He claue the rockes in the wildernes, and gaue them drinke as of the great depths.

¹⁶He brought floods also out of the stonie rocke; so that hee made the waters to descend like the riuers.

¹⁷Yet they sinned stil against him, and prouoked the Highest in the wildernesse,

¹⁸And tempted God in their heartes in requiring meate for their lust.

¹⁹They spake against God also, saying, Can God prepare a table in the wildernesse?

²⁰Behold, he smote the rocke, that the water gushed out, and the streames ouerflowed: can hee giue bread also? or prepare flesh for his people?

²¹Therefore the Lord heard and was angrie, and the fire was kindled in Iaakob, and also wrath came vpon Israel,

²²Because they beleeued not in God, and trusted not in his helpe.

²³Yet he had comanded the clouds aboue, and had opened the doores of heauen,

²⁴And had rained downe MAN vpon them for to eate, and had giuen them of the wheate of heauen.

²⁵Man did eate the bread of Angels: hee sent them meate ynough.

²⁶He caused the Eastwinde to passe in the heauen, and through his power he brought in the Southwinde.

²⁷Hee rained flesh also vpon them as dust, and feathered foule as the sand of the sea.

²⁸And hee made it fall in the middes of their campe euen round about their habitations.

²⁹So they did eate and were well filled: for he gaue them their desire.

³⁰They were not turned from their lust, but the meate was yet in their mouthes,

³¹When the wrath of God came euen vpon them, and slew the strongest of them, and smote downe the chosen men in Israel.

³²For all this, they sinned stil, and beleeued not his wonderous woorkes.

³³Therefore their daies did hee consume in vanitie, and their yeeres hastily.

³⁴And when hee slewe them, they sought him and they returned, and sought God earely.

³⁵And they remembred that God was their strength, and the most high God their redeemer.

³⁶But they flattered him with their mouth, and dissembled with him with their tongue.

³⁷For their heart was not vpright with him: neither were they faithfull in his couenant.
