Jesus Appears at the Sea of Tiberias

¹After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias: and in this manner did he show himself .

²There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples.

³Simon Peter saith to them, I go a fishing. They say to him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a boat immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

⁴But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

⁵Then Jesus saith to them, Children, have ye any victuals? They answered him, No.

⁶And he said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

⁷Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith to Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt on his fisher's coat, (for he was naked) and cast himself into the sea.

⁸And the other disciples came in a little boat (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits) dragging the net with fishes.

⁹As soon then as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid upon them, and bread.

¹⁰Jesus saith to them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

¹¹Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and notwithstanding there were so many, yet the net was not broken.

¹²Jesus saith to them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

¹³Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

¹⁴This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, after he had risen from the dead.

Jesus Restores Peter

¹⁵So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him, Yes, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him, Feed my lambs.

¹⁶He saith to him again the second time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith to him, Yes, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁷He saith to him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁸Verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast young, thou didst gird thyself and walk whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldst not.

¹⁹This he spoke, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith to him, Follow me.

²⁰Then Peter turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved, following; (who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?)

²¹Peter seeing him, saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do ?

²²Jesus saith to him, If I will that he shall tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.

²³Then this saying went abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not to him, He shall not die; but, if I will that he shall tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

²⁴This is the disciple who testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

²⁵And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

The Power of Words and the Wisdom of Friendship

¹Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

²A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may reveal itself.

³When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

⁴The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the well-spring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

⁵It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

⁶A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

⁷A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

⁸The words of a tale-bearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

⁹He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

¹⁰The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

¹¹The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own conceit.

¹²Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

¹³He that answereth a matter before he heareth it , it is folly and shame to him.

¹⁴The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

¹⁵The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

¹⁶A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

¹⁷He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbor cometh and searcheth him.

¹⁸The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

¹⁹A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

²⁰A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

²¹Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit of it.

²²Whoever findeth a wife findeth a good thing , and obtaineth favor from the LORD.

²³The poor useth entreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

²⁴A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Greeting

¹Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

²To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colosse: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving and Prayer for the Colossians

³We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

⁴Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,

⁵For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which ye have heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

⁶Which is come to you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it , and knew the grace of God in truth:

⁷As ye also learned from Epaphras our dear fellow-servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;

⁸Who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.

Prayer for Wisdom to Walk Worthily

⁹For this cause we also, since the day we heard it , do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

¹⁰That ye may walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

¹¹Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, to all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;

¹²Giving thanks to the Father, who hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

¹³Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his beloved Son:

¹⁴In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

The Supremacy of Christ

¹⁵Who is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of every creature:

¹⁶For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are upon earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

¹⁷And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

¹⁸And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; that in all things he may have the pre-eminence.

¹⁹For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;

²⁰And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself; by him, I say , whether they are things on earth, or things in heaven.

Reconciled Through the Cross

²¹And you, that were formerly alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled,

²²In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable and unreprovable in his sight:

²³If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which hath been preached to every creature which is under heaven; of which I Paul am made a minister;

Paul's Labor and Ministry for the Church

²⁴Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

²⁵Of which I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God;

²⁶Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages, and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

²⁷To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

²⁸Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

²⁹For which I also labor, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
