2 Chronicles 10 Introduction
The people apply to Rehoboam to ease them of their burdens, 2 Chronicles 10:1-4. Rejecting the advice of the aged counsellors, and following that of the young men, he gives them an ungracious answer, 2 Chronicles 10:5-14. The people are discouraged, and ten tribes revolt, 2 Chronicles 10:15-17. They stone Hadoram, who went to collect the tribute; and Rehoboam but barely escapes, 2 Chronicles 10:18, 2 Chronicles 10:19.

This chapter is not only in sense the same, but is expressed almost in the selfsame words as First Kings chapter twelve, verses one through nineteen, so there needs not anything to be added to the notes there, which the reader is referred to. See Gill on 1 Kings 12:1.

(1) The Revolt of the Ten Tribes. The Reign of Rehoboam (2 Chronicles 10-12.).
(a) The Revolt of the Ten Tribes against the Dynasty of David (2Chronicles 10:1 to 2Chronicles 11:4). Comp. the parallel narrative in 1Kings 12:1-24.
Considered by itself, this section might be pronounced a transcript of 1Kings 12:1-24. Such differences as appear in the Hebrew text are mostly unimportant, consisting of merely verbal modifications and omissions not affecting the general sense. (See Intro. §6; and the commentary on the passage in Kings.)

REHOBOAM REFUSING THE OLD MEN'S GOOD COUNSEL.
1. Rehoboam went to Shechem--(See on
1Ki 12:1).
This chapter is, with a few verbal alterations, the same as in
1Ki 12:1-19.
The narrative of Kings (marginal reference) is repeated with only slight verbal differences.

2 Chronicles 10:1
Rehoboam went to Shechem - This chapter is almost word for word the same as 1 Kings 12:1-19, to the notes on which the reader is referred.
Rehoboam made king. The Israelites by Jeroboam request a relaxation, 2 Chronicles 10:1-5. Rehoboam refusing the old men’s counsel, by the advice of young men, answereth them roughly, 2 Chronicles 10:6-15. Ten tribes revolting, kill Hadoram, and make Rehoboam to flee, 2 Chronicles 10:16-19.

This chapter is copied almost verbatim from 1Ki 12:1-19, 2Ch 10:1-19, where it was opened at large. Solomon's defection from God was not repeated, but the defection of the ten tribes from his family is, in this chapter, where we find, I. How foolish Rehoboam was in his treating with them, 2Ch 10:1,5-14. II. How wicked the people were in complaining of Solomon (2Ch 10:2-4) and forsaking Rehoboam, 2Ch 10:16-19. III. How just and righteous God was in all this, 2Ch 10:15. His counsel was thereby fulfilled. With him are strength and wisdom; both the deceived and the deceiver (the fool and the knave) are his (Job 12:16), that is, are made use of by him to suit his purposes.
