굴 깊은 곳에 있더니 - 오히려 "굴 안쪽 깊은 곳에 거하며 머물러 있었다"라는 뜻이다. 이러한 동굴들 가운데 어떤 것은 매우 깊고 넓다. 굴 입구 가까이에 있는 사람은 눈에 띄겠지만, 안쪽 깊숙한 곳에 있는 사람들은 완전히 어둠 속에 있어 보이지 않았을 것이며, 특히 이 사건이 밤에 일어났다면 더욱 그러하였을 것이다. 표제에 따르면 시편 67:1-7은 이 일을 계기로 지어졌다.

Remained in the sides - Rather, "were in the sides of the cave dwelling or abiding there." Some of these caverns are very deep and spacious. Any one near the mouth of the cave would be visible, but those in the recesses would be quite in the dark and invisible, especially if the incident occurred at night. Psalm 67:1-7, according to the title, was composed on this occasion.

Saul does not appear to have invited David to return to Gibeah, or to have given him any security of doing so with safety. David, with his intuitive sagacity, perceived that the softening of Saul's feelings was only momentary, and that the situation remained unchanged.
