Scena 1 요한복음 5:1-4

Waiting by the Pool of Bethesda

Beside the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem, there was a pool called Bethesda.

Many people waited there for help.

John tells us how Jesus came into that place of waiting.

There Jesus saw one man who had waited for a long time.

Scena 2 요한복음 5:5-7

The Man Who Waited a Long Time

A man there had been sick for thirty-eight years.

Jesus knew that he had waited for a very long time.

Jesus came to him first and asked if he wanted to be made well.

Jesus gave him a word stronger than the water he had waited for.

Scena 3 요한복음 5:8-9

Get Up and Walk

Jesus told the man to get up and walk.

At once the man was made well and picked up his mat.

A new walk began in the place where he had waited so long.

But because that day was the Sabbath, a question arose.

Scena 4 요한복음 5:10-13

A Question on the Sabbath

That day was the Sabbath.

The leaders saw the man carrying his mat and asked about it.

The man answered that the one who made him well had told him to do it.

Later, Jesus met the man again in the temple.

Scena 5 요한복음 5:14-18

My Father Is Working

Jesus met the man again in the temple.

Jesus taught him to live before God as someone who had received new life.

Then Jesus said that his Father was working, and he was working too.

Now Jesus taught about the Father and the Son giving life.

Scena 6 요한복음 5:19-24

The Son Gives Life

Jesus said that the Son does the works of the Father.

As the Father gives life, the Son also gives life.

Whoever hears Jesus' word and believes God receives eternal life.

Jesus said that the time was coming to hear the voice of life.

Scena 7 요한복음 5:25-30

The Time to Hear the Voice of Life

Jesus said that those who hear the voice of the Son of God will live.

Jesus gives life and calls people to stand rightly before God.

So this is not a story meant to frighten us, but a word calling us to life.

Jesus then said that many witnesses point to him.

Scena 8 요한복음 5:31-40

Witnesses Point to Jesus

Jesus said that witnesses point to him.

John the Baptist pointed to Jesus like a lamp.

Jesus' works, the Father, and the Scriptures also show who Jesus is.

The purpose of reading Scripture is to come to Jesus and receive life.

Jesus also said that Moses' writings point to him.

Scena 9 요한복음 5:41-47

The One Moses Wrote About

Jesus did not seek praise from people.

If people only seek human praise, they can miss love for God.

Jesus said that Moses' writings point to him too.

Scripture leads us to Jesus so that we may receive life.

John chapter 5 ends by showing that Scripture leads us to Jesus.
