칼케돈 정의

한

우리는 거룩한 교부들을 따라 한마음으로, 한 분이시며 동일하신 아들 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 고백하도록 가르칩니다. 그분은 신성에서 완전하시고 인성에서도 완전하시며, 참 하나님이시요 참 사람이시고, 이성적 영혼과 몸을 지니셨습니다.

We, then, following the holy Fathers, all with one consent, teach men to confess one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the same perfect in Godhead and also perfect in manhood; truly God and truly man, of a reasonable soul and body;

한

신성에 따라서는 아버지와 본질이 같으시고, 인성에 따라서는 우리와 본질이 같으시며, 죄를 제외하고는 모든 면에서 우리와 같으십니다.

consubstantial with the Father according to the Godhead, and consubstantial with us according to the Manhood; in all things like unto us, without sin;

신성에 따라서는 만세 전에 아버지께로부터 나셨고, 인성에 따라서는 이 마지막 날에 우리와 우리의 구원을 위하여 하나님의 어머니이신 동정녀 마리아에게서 나셨습니다.

begotten before all ages of the Father according to the Godhead, and in these latter days, for us and for our salvation, born of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, according to the Manhood;

한 분이시며 동일하신 그리스도, 아들, 주님, 독생자께서는 두 본성 안에서 인정되시되, 혼합되지 않고, 변화되지 않으며, 나뉘지 않고, 분리되지 않으십니다.

one and the same Christ, Son, Lord, Only-begotten, to be acknowledged in two natures, inconfusedly, unchangeably, indivisibly, inseparably;

두 본성의 구별은 연합으로 인해 결코 없어지지 않고, 오히려 각 본성의 고유성이 보존되어 한 위격과 한 실체 안에서 함께 만나며, 두 인격으로 갈라지거나 나뉘지 않고, 한 분이시며 동일하신 아들, 독생자, 하나님의 말씀, 주 예수 그리스도이십니다.

the distinction of natures being by no means taken away by the union, but rather the property of each nature being preserved, and concurring in one Person and one Subsistence, not parted or divided into two persons, but one and the same Son, and only begotten, God the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ;

이는 예언자들이 처음부터 그분에 관하여 선언하였고, 주 예수 그리스도께서 친히 우리에게 가르치셨으며, 거룩한 교부들의 신경이 우리에게 전해 준 바와 같습니다.

as the prophets from the beginning have declared concerning him, and the Lord Jesus Christ himself has taught us, and the Creed of the holy Fathers has handed down to us.
